This weekend, movies theaters all over were flooded with women going to see the comedy “Girls Trip” starring Queen Latifah, Jada Pickett-Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish.
This movie was a much needed laugh out loud film for black woman- for ALL women! From a Moms point of view, I’ll tell you why it is a must see in relation to each of the characters! (Don’t worry, there’s no spoilers 🙅🏾 for those who haven’t seen it yet)
For starters, just read the title! It’s a night out away from being a mom… round up your girls and take advantage! When we become moms, friendships usually take a back seat. Not necessarily in a bad way, but because our lives shift and we have a million things on our plate. Going out and reconnecting with some friends is an act of self- care that every mom needs!
Regina Hall aka Ryan Pierce “The Boss”
Whether you’re a mom or a boss mom as I like to call myself, we can get caught up in our careers, businesses, motherhood, relationships etc. that time with our friends take a back seat. Ryan desperately needed this time with her girls and she ain’t even know it!
Queen Latifah aka Sasha “The Gossip”
Never get so caught up in work, parenting, relationships etc. that you forget who YOU are! Sasha spent time with her girls and that small experience helped her realize a few things about the person she had become!
Jada Pinkett-Smith aka Lisa “The Mom”
This character was one of my personal favorites because it stands on the notion of which my brand/blog was built! Don’t become a mom and be JUST that! Us Modern Day Mamas flourish at motherhood because we are able to juggle so many other demands of life while making motherhood look so dope! We have careers, start businesses, purchase homes, take vacations, continue our education, breastfeed and raise dope little human beings!
Tiffany Haddish aka Dina “The Wild One”
Don’t get caught up in your every day demands that you simply forget to HAVE FUN! You can be a Modern Day Mama and still enjoy yourself whether that means hanging with your girls or getting your groove back with some grapefruit 😜
Overall, this film screamed BLACK GIRL MAGIC and SISTERHOOD with a message about staying true to who you are. A message about remembering where your came from and those that had and continue to have your back! I encourage you all to go see it if you haven’t! In fact, drop a pic of you and your girls… I want to see your “Girls Trip!”
